Departing Austin, Texas

Version 2011 of the Texas drought and heat wave is brutal in a record-breakingly bad sort of way.  People are posting signs saying things like, "Satan called.  He wants his weather back."  Indeed.  Amidst the Texas heat, water rationing and rolling blackouts I'm packing for the crisp fall weather of northern Italy.  The Masters Course at the Italian Culinary Institute for Foreigners lasts six months and begins at the school in Costigliole d'Asti and ends with an externship at a restaurant... somewhere... in Italy.  http://www.icif.com/.

This is my blog of that journey.  First stop, Milano.  But first, a few more days of this hellish heat.

  1. Ahem, per request, I will unleash my genius plan (which, of course, has nothing to do with what would be personally beneficial to my life).

After you become an Italian Chef Extraordinaire, you open the new IT restaurant in Houston. Then I go there, all the time. Next, I bring Program people (from the University of Houston's Creative Writing Program) who are writing the Next Great American Novels and Poetry collections and we immortalize it in verse. Ultimately/Quickly it becomes Super Famous (but I can still waltz in whenever I want or possibly become a hostess). Lastly, you buy an island somewhere (and run the restaurant via skype and occasional visits) and I visit a lot (using your private jet/boat/helicopter, whichever applies).

That's all I have of the plan so far. All that's left is to come up with a name....
